Joseph P. Kennedy (1888-1969) was the father of President John F. Kennedy. During his career he was a banker, financier, and diplomat. From 1934 to 1937, he served as Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and was the Chairman of the Maritime Commission in 1937. John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born on May 29, 1917, to Joseph P. Kennedy and Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy of Brookline, Massachusetts.
